Over the years, French design firm Parrot has created consumer minidrones that can jump and fly. But this year, their new hydrofoil drone can take to the water as well.
The aquatic drone is fitted with a detachable plastic and Styrofoam hull, complete with plastic fins—or “foils”—that create lift as the drone picks up speed. This allows the boat to cruise just above the surface of the water.
Better still, the device can do double duty as an aerial drone as well. Just detach the drone component from its plastic hull, and the iOS or Android app automatically flips into flying mode.
Watch the new hydrofoil in action—and get a glimpse of Parrot’s other new minidrone models—in this video.
