The Institute spotlights IEEE members’ experiences of the Ukraine war
Evgeniy Maloletka/AP
For the last 50 years, The Institute’s mission has been to report on IEEE members, and on professional issues that affect them, in a responsible and independent way. Inspired by the stories that IEEE members from around the world shared with The Institute during the pandemic, we connected with the IEEE Ukraine Section and asked members to contribute accounts of their experiences of the war over the last several weeks.
Many IEEE members in Ukraine are fleeing the violence, while others have had their professional lives upended. Two of those members shared their stories with us: Hanna Porieva, a professor from Kyiv who is trying to keep safe in a small village, and Volodymyr Pyliavskyi, a researcher who remains in Odessa with his pregnant wife. We hope to be able to share more stories from IEEE members in Ukraine in the near future.
To contact The Institute about any of these stories, or to share your own story, please email us: ukraine-stories@ieee.org.
