  1. Most interesting console peripheral

    No, it's not a wireless guitar for playing the most excellent Guitar Hero. It's the Messenger Kit for XBox360. Thirty bucks, and if Microsoft is smart, they'll quickly make it standard in all XBox360s. Why standard? Because then developers will actually develop for it. Whole genres of multiplayer games open up when you have a keyboard to chat: games where lots of people want to talk, and network performance makes voice a non-starter. Now please excuse me while I go get a contract to put the Infocom adventures on XBox Live...

  2. Yeah, the iPhone wants games

    The touch screen is amazingly sensitive without being prone to weird errors. The two-finger zoom interface is lovely. The UI responds instantly, no matter what the phone is doing. I'll write a full review on Tech Talk soon. But damn, this thing is just begging to be used for games. It would be a far better platform than the current game-enabled iPod, because the input device is more flexible, and Apple does not have to fear metal fatigue in the clickwheel for games that would demand a lot of clicking, more than the wheel was really designed for.
