THE INSTITUTEFinding all the continuing-education programs IEEE offers used to require searching more than 40 websites, platforms, and portals. That’s no longer the case. The new IEEE Learning Network (ILN) is a centralized website that provides access to more than 700 courses, webinars, and eLearning programs.
More than a dozen IEEE groups have provided content so far, including the Computer Society, Future Directions, Humanitarian Activities, the Power & Energy Society, and the Standards Association.
“We are all committed to providing the best possible learning experience to IEEE members and others in the engineering and technical community,” says Witold Kinser, vice president, IEEE Educational Activities. “We are pleased to offer this easy-to-use portal to help people find the IEEE educational content they need to advance in their career.”
Site users can search for a specific subject or browse the entire catalog. Each course includes the provider’s name, the instructor’s name, the year the course was introduced, the length of time it should take to complete, and the number of continuing-education units or professional-development credits that can be earned on completion. Also listed is the price. IEEE members and student members receive discounts.
Courses are offered in two ways. Some are hosted on the ILN itself, while other courses are available on provider websites, such as a society’s resource center. Those courses can be found on the ILN portal, but the user will be taken to the website where they are hosted.
ILN users can bookmark a section within a course and return to it later. They also can access a transcript of the classes in which they’re currently enrolled as well as those they’ve completed.
Each course includes a test to assess how well you have understood the content.
Certificates of completion may be printed on demand.
Anyone can access the ILN and search the course catalog. You need an IEEE account, however, in order to sign in and take or purchase a course. Creating an IEEE account is free.
As an introduction to the ILN, IEEE is offering a 50 percent discount on three courses until 30 September: Enterprise Blockchain Overview, Cooperation in Autonomous Vehicles, and Responsible Innovation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
The discount is applied at checkout if you use the code ILNWELCOME.
