News Manager

Amy Nordrum is News Manager of IEEE Spectrum. She assigns and edits news stories that run on Spectrum’s website and oversees the News section at the beginning of the magazine. She frequently contributes to Spectrum’s social media channels as well as other editorial and revenue-generating projects.

Amy joined the staff in February 2016 as an associate editor covering communications technology. Her favorite stories blend elements of science, business, and technology. For Spectrum’s January 2019 issue, she wrote about how the world’s leading hard drive manufacturers have placed huge bets on competing technologies that can write more bits to every magnetic disk.

Before joining Spectrum, Amy wrote about health care, biotech, and pharmaceuticals for International Business Times, based in New York City. Amy earned her master’s degree in science journalism from New York University and her bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ohio University. She is currently completing an MBA with a focus on media management at New York University’s Stern School of Business.
