WEBINARS // Unmanned Robotic Systems

SPECTRUM WEBCASTS

Unmanned Robotic Systems

Sponsored by:
Duration: 1 hour
Thu, Jun 18, '09 - 14:00PM (EDT)

June 2009 - Available on demand.

After a very popular Episode I – Robotics 101, IEEE Spectrum presents Episode II in 2009 series of Robotics webinars.

Most mobile robots, including unmanned robotic systems and autonomous vehicles, can be characterized by three tasks they perform – sense the environment around them; make a decision based on a predefined task and the environment it senses; and finally act in order to perform the predefined task by adapting to its environment.

A mobile robot, therefore, can be loosely defined to be comprised of three architectural components – sensors, autonomy algorithms and actuators. In this webcast, we will look at the current technologies, the future trends of these components and the tools that are advancing their innovation.

We will learn how graphical system design tools help roboticists design sophisticated robotic architectures by seamlessly integrating sensors and actuators with cutting-edge algorithms.

Shelley Gretlein is the Real-Time and Embedded Senior Group Manager for National Instruments. Currently focused on robotics and autonomous system design, she is responsible for the development strategy and worldwide promotion of the LabVIEW Embedded Platform including LabVIEW Real-Time, LabVIEW FPGA, and LabVIEW Microprocessor products, as well as system design partnerships and technology awareness.  Actively involved in industry consortia on industrial control and embedded forums, Gretlein has been a graphical system and embedded design consultant for various publications.  She joined National Instruments in 2000 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Management Systems from the University of Missouri-Rolla.

Bruce Hall - President
Bruce Hall was named president of Velodyne in July 2003 to provide strategic leadership and to drive Velodyne's growth. With over 22 years of executive experience, Hall brings a solid technical background and strong business management experience to this leadership role. Prior to joining Velodyne, Bruce held positions as a Gartner Group Research Analyst, Senior Director of Product Management for Xevo Corporation and VP of Marketing at InCert Software and Trigent Software.

Moderator:
Bob Malone, IEEE is the logistics editor for Forbes.com and has written columns for Inbound Logistics Magazine and an online column for Managing Automation for 10 years. He co-founded the Variflex Corp. where he helped design traffic flows and performed studies on interaction of people and traffic at various business activity centers.
