SPECTRUM WEBCASTS

Colleges Are Transitioning for the Future -- Are You?

Sponsored by:
Duration: 1 hour
Tue, Jun 9, '09 - 14:00PM (EDT)

June 2009 - Available on Demand.

Engineering students and those already working in the industry will need to enhance their skills and knowledge to advance their careers. Is there a better time than now to be thinking about where you want to take your career and how to do that?

Government funding around the world will have a major impact on job creation in technology—and universities are responding. Schools are gearing up their courses in this time of transition and funding new areas to help engineers prepare their careers for the future. Now is the time to start seriously considering where you want to be and what you want to be doing when the Universities - large and small - are launching new programs that not only offer advanced programs in your current skills set, but have added new ones to meet the demands of a changing market and economy.
Opportunities have never been greater to learn new concepts and skills, either in-class or through the growing offerings in distance learning from engineering and computer science schools at the Master’s degree level, as well as from programs for attaining your PE or to upgrade your IT certification. Learn what opportunities are available to you as undergraduates and working engineers.

This Webinar will help you set your future educational goals. Learn what opportunities are available to you as undergraduates and working engineers. Grad schools have done their homework; take advantage of what they have learned that could translate into new opportunities that could work for you.

PRESENTER INFO:
Dr. Belle Wei, Dean of Engineering in the College of Engineering at San Jose State University
Dr. Wei holds a Ph.D in electrical engineering from UC-Berkeley and an MS degree in engineering from Harvard University. Her areas of special interest are VLSI circuit theory, special architectures, and sensor networks. She received the the 2007 Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien Educational Leadership Award.

Carl S. Selinger, Consultant and author of "Stuff You Don't Learn in Engineering School: Skills for Success in the Real World"
Selinger's seminar, "Stuff You Don't Learn in Engineering School," has helped thousands of engineers and other professionals learn nontechnical soft skills--like decision-making, setting priorities, teamwork, and negotiating. He also consults on engineering projects, incluing planning intelligent transportation systems. He is also an adjunct professor at The Cooper Union. Sellinger holds engineering degrees from Cooper Union, Yale University, and Polytechnic University.
Kathleen C. Werrell, Assistant Dean for Engineering Outreach, University of Delaware
Werrell's UD career began as Coordinator of Special Projects in the College of Engineering (1987-92). After serving as Assistant to the Provost from 1992-93, she returned to engineering as Associate Director of the new Engineering Outreach Program, where she is now director and assistant dean. Werrell has also served on the Technology Education Standards & Framework Commission for the State of Delaware, and is a member of the American Society for Engineering Education.
