Blackberry Outages Spread to North America

On Monday, Blackberry smartphones began losing email and Internet access in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The phone’s maker, Research in Motion, expected service to be restored by today and has even issued statements that the problem has been resolved. But outages have continued and are now spreading across the Atlantic.

Early Wednesday, outages stemming from a “switch failure within RIM infrastructure” were reported in North America, where many companies are left to deal with fleets of unconnected phones. Currently, none of Arianna Huffington’s three Blackberrys are working in Milan.
