Global leaders reached a consensus at climate talks in Cancun, but will it bring change?
Despite widespread predictions that this year’s United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, would be a disappointing and inconclusive affair, an agreement about how to reduce the world’s rising carbon emissions was reached—hailed by many participants. According to many other observers, though, there’s less here than meets the eye. The UK Guardian, for example, wrote that the agreement won’t reduce temperatures as much as scientists say is needed, and it pushes many of the most important decisions to future negotiations.
